Supporting Our Troops with Care Packages
Shipping care packages to soldiers reminds them of the family and friends they have waiting for them at home. They get motivated to do their best out there. They feel loved and wanted, and try harder to be safe and come home to be with their family.

Care Package Ideas - Letters
The most thoughtful thing you can do is to mail a letter to your troop. You don't have to worry about your handwriting. They don't care at all. Just getting mail makes them glad. The most meaningful letter is from the people they cherish.

Care Package Ideas - CIGARS
After letters, cigars are the #1 most requested items by troops overseas.
Apparently, they're very hard to come by, and every soldier knows the importance of the small comforts that make a difficult situation easier.

Every cigar that ends up in the hand of a soldier who wants one will definitely appreciate it. Smoking cigars is one of the few pastimes permitted to soldiers in places like Iraq. Cigar smoking creates a camaraderie between soldiers that plays a large part in renewing their spirit and in building bridges across generations of soldiers all fighting the same war.

Thompson Cigar, America's oldest mail order cigar company, caters to the needs of our troops and is very APO/FPO friendly. Show your troops you care by sending them a Powerhouse 25 Sampler. I send a monthly sampler to a group of U.S. Marines stationed at Fallujah, Iraq, and you can do the same for them. For only $29.95, you can support our troops with twenty-five of Thompson Cigar's most popular premium house-brand smokes - 5 El Gringo, 5 Wall Street, 5 Toro Bravo, 5 La Salle, and 5 Manolete! A very small gesture that will be remembered, and cherished, by soldiers who volunteer to put their lives on the line for all Americans... c/o Major B. Ballard
BSSG-1, GS Company

Major Ballard and his Marines have set aside time for a regular Cigar Night. They began this time to reflect -- especially on the week's more harrowing experiences. To his Marines, after a week of near misses from enemy fire, he says "I tell them quite seriously, to take some time, a friend if so inclined, and go enjoy a good cigar and ponder how good life is. Take 45 minutes or so, get some perspective, then pick up your helmet and get back to it." Our troops put their lives on the line for our freedom, so I encourage you to send support -- and maybe a few good cigars!

You don't have to write about certain topic every time. Just tell them about the big and little things that happened throughout the day. Tell them about the latest movie you rented, school, what the kids did today, what you and your friends did, what you cooked for dinner, or the video game you bought. It doesn't matter just let them know how and what you are doing

Most importantly, tell them you miss them and love them with all your heart. Writing to them shows them you care and love them in a way that nothing else can.

Whenever you think about not writing because you can't think of anything to say, imagine their face when it's time for mail call and their name is called. Their face will light up even if it's just a simple note that says, "I love you."

Care Package Ideas - Pictures
Pictures are also one of the best things you can send to a troop. When you are away from a cherished one for a long time, it's hard to remember what they look like. Send them a lot of pictures… but different pictures. You or your kids or friends making funny faces, serious, or making idiots of themselves. Also receiving an award or opening up a birthday present.

Make up as many reasons as possible to take pictures. Try being in your soldier's shoes. You would want to see everything that goes on during their day. That's what they would like too. Troops who are away from home really miss seeing their family and friends, so send them a lot of pics. Not just prettied up. Even days when you are casual or not at your best. Take pictures of everyone in bed, at the dinner table, watching tv, playing volleyball, cooking, or dancing around the house.

Care Package Ideas - Goodies & Gadgets
Every troop misses the abundance and variety of junk food from the 'states,' so be sure to pack some beef jerky, hard candies, and chips. Flavored powder drinks like Nestea or Kool-aid are also a big hit. Chocolates melt, so you might think twice about sending gooey candies. Travel games are good for entertaining. But when they get really bored, a cool media player already loaded up with all their favorite songs and movies will really help the time pass by. You can find great deals on these at Amazon, just like this one...

Our troops need our support now more than ever before. Please dedicate a portion of your lifestyle to show our deployed troops how much we care and appreciate the freedom they have fought for on our behalf.
